Galeries St-Lambert
Fire safety in focus for Belgian shopping malls
Urban renewal
The renewal of Galeries St. Lambert is the final project in a series of efforts to revitalize the center of Liege (Luik), Belgium. The shopping mall, which is located centrally in the shopping district includes multiple levels with approximately 39000 sqaure meters above ground and 14000 square meters below ground. The upper levels are afforded a fantastic view over one of the city’s main squares: Place St-Lambert.
The project which began in 2002 was designed by M & JM. Jaspers – J. Eyers & Partners: The renovation of Galeries St. Lambert was completed in April 2004.
Guarantee safety
After a tragic shopping mall fire in 1967, Belgium has maintained strict rules and regulations to ensure the safety and security of visitors to public shopping areas. ASSA ABLOY was faced with the task of convincing the architects that their panic and exit doors would perform effectively during almost any emergency situation.

The Galeries St. Lambert project designated approximately 1000 doors to be equipped with ASSA ABLOY locking products. This included devices from multiple Group companies including: effeff, Abloy, IKON, litto and JPM.
